Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of the website. Reading a page or using a search feature signals acceptance of every term below. Anyone who does not agree should stop using the service.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. Neither the site nor its advertising partners provide a service for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to identify Raleigh County and West Virginia record-access resources. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, independent from every government office. It does not hold official criminal records, retrieve government files, conduct an official check, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its content identifies the Raleigh County sheriff, criminal court clerks, West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, WVDCR, and West Virginia Sex Offender Registry as distinct custodians. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

You agree that you will not:

  • Use the service in violation of federal, West Virginia, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, intimidate, or harass any person
  • Apply site content to a decision regulated by the FCRA
  • Attempt unauthorized access to the service or its systems
  • Deploy a bot, scraper, or other automated collection tool
  • Disrupt access or degrade service for another visitor

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate. The rule is especially important for the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. West Virginia law and the registry warning prohibit threats and harassment. Registry disclosure supports public safety awareness, not vigilantism or unlawful exclusion.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create a consumer report, credit report, or background-screening product. Site or linked-tool data may not be used to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A regulated use requires the proper official or FCRA-compliant channel. This site cannot supply that product.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed West Virginia attorney can advise how a charge, conviction, warrant, or expungement law applies to specific facts.

6. No Warranties

Everything on this site is provided "as is." We do not guarantee that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Charges, dispositions, custody status, sealing, and expungement can change a record. Updates may lag or be missed. Nothing published here is an official statement from a court, sheriff, or other government body.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to sheriff, court, state agency, legal resource, and outside search sites. Those destinations control their own content, availability, prices, and data practices. Review their terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Raleigh County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. Copying, distributing, modifying, or creating derivative work requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, the site disclaims liability for loss arising from use of its content or any linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold the site harmless from claims caused by that user's conduct or breach of these terms, including related legal costs where allowed.

11. Governing Law

West Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute concerning use of the site must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in West Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

Revised terms become effective when the updated text is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or terminated without advance notice when permitted by law.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected term will be narrowed only as needed.
