No official product combines every Raleigh County criminal record. A sound search is layered. Begin with the free Magistrate Case Record Search for misdemeanor dockets, warrants tied to public cases, and felony preliminary events. Search the separate circuit system when a felony advanced. Add WVDCR custody data for a recent booking, then ask the arresting agency for its police narrative. Those sources have different custodians and update schedules.
Use a full legal name and test spelling variants. A case number is far more exact. Compare the agency, filing date, charge, court location, and disposition rather than choosing a record by name alone. The magistrate result list stops at 30 entries, and public details can include birth dates. Treat the portal as a finding aid and protect personal data.
- Search the magistrate portal by name or exact case number and select Raleigh when the county filter appears.

- If the felony record shows a waived preliminary hearing or transferred bond, continue in the registered circuit search.

Raleigh Criminal Records Have Many Custodians
A single Raleigh County arrest can produce four records. The arresting agency creates the report. WVDCR creates a booking entry if the person enters regional custody. West Virginia Official Background Checks
West Virginia has no general-public, name-based CIB conviction portal. A person reviewing their own West Virginia record uses WVSP Form 136A and sends the form with a $20 check or money order to the Criminal Identification Bureau at 725 Jefferson Road, South Charleston, WV 25309. Raleigh Booking Records Are State Records
Raleigh County does not run an independent county jail search. People committed to pretrial or regional custody are ordinarily placed in the West Virginia regional-jail system, particularly Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility at 1200 Airport Road in Beaver. A jail hit may show identity, an offender number, booking or admission data, custody category, status, and some charge or sentence information. A live custody entry does not establish guilt, and the initial booking charge may not match the charge later filed by the prosecutor.
The closest official booking log found was WVDCR Daily Incarcerations. The sheriff did not publish an authenticated arrest blotter. The search sequence is: arresting agency report → regional booking → magistrate process → possible circuit transfer → final court disposition. Each arrow represents a separate custodian.

Read each field in its source context. A police report may list alleged statutes and probable cause. A magistrate record adds filed charges, bond, event codes, and charge-level results. A circuit file can contain the indictment, plea, judgment, and sentence. The CIB repository instead connects fingerprint identity with reported arrest cycles and dispositions.

Disposition means the outcome of a charge. Nolle prosequi means the prosecutor formally stopped pursuing it at that time. Neither a dismissal nor an acquittal automatically removes the public file. Expungement requires a qualifying court order.
Raleigh Sheriff Criminal Record Requests
The Raleigh County Sheriff's Office keeps sheriff-created incident and arrest reports at 308 Ned Payne Drive in Beckley. Use its Documents Center and FOIA route, not the general contact form. The general form says it is not for FOIA and is not routinely monitored for calls for service. A written request may use the optional official form or another reasonable format. Describe the record with a date, place, event or report number, and the type of material sought. The form collects requester contact details, a specific record description, consent to reasonable reproduction costs, and a maximum cost that triggers notice. It also warns that request details are published in the Secretary of State FOIA database.

Public Access Laws in West Virginia
The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act gives the public proper and reasonable opportunities to inspect and copy nonexempt records held by a public body. It does not make all content public. Active investigative details, juvenile data, victim-sensitive facts, medical material, security information, and personal identifiers may be withheld or redacted. Court files are open unless a statute, rule, or court order makes them confidential.

The court clerk may retrieve a file and supervise inspection in a set area. Reasonable controls can cover hours, file volume, archived material, and copies. Broad research alone is not a valid reason to deny an otherwise public court record.
Raleigh Criminal Supervision Records
Probation and parole are different. Raleigh County Probation works through the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit at 117 West Prince Street in Beckley. It deals with court-ordered local supervision. WVDCR Parole Services supervises people conditionally released from prison, and the Beckley Parole Office serves Raleigh plus Fayette, Greenbrier, Nicholas, and Pocahontas counties.

WVDCR's standard parole conditions include prompt reporting, limits on residence changes, reporting arrests, and a $40 monthly supervision fee. Special terms can vary. A violation may create an officer report, court filing, warrant or capias, hearing, and later ruling. The public docket may show that process even when the supervision file is closed.
Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records
West Virginia offers separate paths for certain dismissed or acquitted charges and certain qualifying convictions. Under section 61-11-25, a qualifying charge may be eligible after the statutory conditions and waiting period, commonly no sooner than 60 days after dismissal or acquittal. Pending cases, plea-related dismissals, specified offenses, and disqualifying history can block relief.
Section 61-11-26 may cover one qualifying misdemeanor, several qualifying misdemeanors, a qualifying nonviolent felony, or connected qualifying nonviolent felonies. Exclusions are broad. Standard waiting points are one year for a single misdemeanor, two years for multiple misdemeanors, and five years for a qualifying nonviolent felony, measured from conviction, release, or completion of supervision, whichever is later.
File in Raleigh County Circuit Court when the case arose there. An order, not eligibility alone, directs expungement. Keep certified copies and check the public portal afterward. If CIB still shows an entry, contact the court or arresting agency that supplied the wrong or missing disposition. Juvenile, sealed, and expunged files are generally outside ordinary public access.
New Raleigh Criminal Court Data
West Virginia court access is changing. The Supreme Court launched a daily-refreshed lower-court dashboard in July 2026. Federal Raleigh County Criminal Records
Federal cases arising in Raleigh County belong to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. PACER requires registration and generally charges ten cents per page, with a 30-page cap for most case documents. Quarterly fees of $30 or less are waived under the current schedule, and judicial opinions are free. Federal dockets can show indictments, motions, pleas, judgments, and sentencing entries, subject to privacy rules and sealing.

The district source controls current Beckley Division details and local rules. Federal custody is searched through the Bureau of Prisons, not WVDCR, while a federal identity-history request still runs through the FBI subject-only process.

City police reports stay with the city that created them. Beckley also has a municipal court, while Mabscott and Sophia require direct local contact because no complete public city records portal was found.
